The American Legion Post 446 in Centralia is seeking applicants for Boys State. Boys State is a nationwide civics development program with chapters in every state started in 1935 for boys who have completed their Junior year in high school. The Illinois program simulates the structure of Illinois’ local, county and state government. It serves to train our youth in citizenship, leadership and character development. Its participants can earn up to 3 to 9 credits of college credit. More information is available on illinoisboysstate.org.

This year’s program is scheduled to be held at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston from June 13 – 19, 2020. The American Legion Post 446 in Centralia will sponsor the applicants and pay $300 for their tuition, fees, room and board for the entire week. Participants must sign an EIU Liability Waiver and provide their own transportation. Boys State officials will send advisories if the date of the program must be changed due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

Interested students requesting an application should contact Mike Stachowski by calling or texting 618-292-6541.
