KC Signs Articulation Agreement with Western Illinois University
Kaskaskia College and Western Illinois University have recently signed an articulation agreement for an Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) Degree in Music.
The agreements will assist students who plan to transfer to Western Illinois University in the Batchelor of Music Degree in Music Business. Students who plan to complete a baccalaureate degree in Music or Music Business will follow the Associate in Fine Arts in Music degree coursework at Kaskaskia College. Students who complete the AFA in Music at Kaskaskia may transfer to WIU and complete their degree in Music Business in an additional two years.
Kellie Henegar, Dean of Arts and Sciences said that KC is very excited to see this articulation agreement in place with WIU. She adds, “This type of articulation agreement represents many hours of collaboration from both schools. KC’s music faculty and WIU’s music faculty worked together to review curriculum to make sure that the outlined pathway is seamless for KC music students moving on to WIU to study music business. This type of collaboration is what ensures our student’s success transferring to their four year institution. I would like to thank Professors Cliff Jourdan and Lynda Marshall for their leadership in these efforts. We look forward to continued conversations with WIU on future 2 + 2 music articulations agreements.”
“These types of curricula are part of a concerted effort to work with Illinois community colleges such as KC, reduce barriers while maintaining standards, and to increase the likelihood of music students transferring to WIU to continue their education while staying in Illinois,” said Courtney Blankenship, Associate Professor/Director of Music Business for Western Illinois University.
“I’m very excited about our partnership with Western Illinois University and I look forward to our future collaborations”, said Cliff Jourdan, Fine and Performing Arts Department Chair and Professor of Music.
Kaskaskia College now has more than 150 agreements with four-year colleges and universities, up from just 39 a year ago. This showcases KC’s commitment to providing students as many opportunities and pathways as possible to pursue their academic and career aspirations. Agreements with other colleges are expected to be announced later in the year.
