Jefferson County Historial Society To Hold Annual Chocolate Festival

The Jefferson County Historical Society will be hosting its annual Chocolate Festival on Thursday, December 1 at the Elks Lodge in Mt. Vernon.  This is the sixth year for the festival.  The Chocolate Festival will include a chocolate contest open to the public and divided into 5 categories:  cakes, cookies, candy, brownies and bread recipes.  All entries must feature chocolate.  Three winners from each category will be chosen and each will receive a prize. An overall grand prize winner will receive $250.

After the entries are judged that morning, a chocolate tasting featuring all of the entries from the contest will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m.  Tickets for the chocolate tasting are $5.  In addition to the chocolate tasting, there will be a bake sale featuring a variety of baked goods and a silent auction.  All proceeds from the tasting, bake sale, and auction go toward upkeep at the Jefferson County Historical Society.

Entry forms for the chocolate contest can be picked up at the Mt. Vernon Tourism office, City Hall, Jefferson County Historical Society office or any Historical Society member.  The Historical Society must receive entry forms for the chocolate contest by November 28.  Submit entries to the Jefferson County Historical Society, 1411 North 27th Street, Mt. Vernon IL  62864.

Tickets for the chocolate tasting, bake sale, and silent auction can be purchased at the Mt. Vernon Tourism office and the Jefferson County Historical Society office Monday through Friday 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  For more information contact the Jefferson County Historical Society office at 246-0033.
