JCHS to hold annual Chocolate Festival December 5

The Jefferson County Historical Society will be hosting its annual Chocolate Festival on Thursday, December 5 at the Elks Lodge in Mt. Vernon. This is the eighth year for the festival. The Chocolate Festival will include a chocolate contest open to the public and divided into five categories: cakes, cookies, candy, brownies and bread recipes. All entries must feature chocolate. Three winners from each category will be chosen and each will receive a prize. An overall grand prize winner will receive $250.

After the entries are judged that morning, a chocolate tasting featuring all of the entries from the contest will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m. Tickets for the chocolate tasting are $5. In addition to the chocolate tasting, there will be a bake sale featuring a variety of baked goods. All proceeds from the tasting and bake sale, go toward upkeep at the Jefferson County Historical Society.

Entry forms for the chocolate contest can be picked up at the Mt. Vernon Tourism office, City Hall, Jefferson County Historical Society office or any Historical Society member. The Historical Society must receive entry forms for the chocolate contest by Wednesday, November 27. Submit entries to the Jefferson County Historical Society, 1411 North 27th Street, Mt. Tickets for the chocolate tasting and bake sale can be purchased at the Mt. Vernon Tourism office and the Jefferson County Historical Society office Monday through Friday 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information contact the Jefferson County Historical Society office at 246-0033.
