History society presents Chocolate Festival
MT. VERNON — Chocolate will be the featured food during the 7th Annual Jefferson County Historical Society Chocolate Festival on Dec. 6 at the Mt. Vernon Elks.
Those who enter the event compete for a $250 grand prize sponsored by the Mt. Vernon Convention and Visitors Bureau. In addition, there are prizes for each for the top three winners for each category. Categories are cakes, cookies, candy, brownies and bread. The competition is open to the public, and only one entry per contestant is allowed. Each entry must feature chocolate and recipes must be included. Each entry will be published in a chocolate festival cookbook after the contest.
Entries are checked in at the Elks Lodge, 1107 Jordan Ave., between 7:320 and 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 6. Entrants must submit the entire quantity of the recipe. Entries should not be cut. The top three winners will be chosen from each category and announced at noon.
Judging is based only on taste. After judging, the entry will be cut into tiny pieces and entered into a tasting event open to the public.
The Chocolate Festival will also include a bake sale and silent auction to help raise funds for the programs of the Jefferson County Historical Society. Bake sale items may be brought to the Elks after 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 6.
Tickets for the chocolate tasting and bake sale can be purchased at the Mt. Vernon Tourism office, at the Jefferson County Historical Society office, Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
