MT. VERNON – Jefferson County historical society will host its annual luncheon fund raiser from 11 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 at the St. Mary Parish Center.

Choices for the lunch are either chili and crackers or pork tenderloin sandwich with chips with a drink or dessert for $8. There will be seating to eat in or the option to carry out. A bake sale will also be held during the event.

The money raise will benefit the Jefferson County Historical Society and supports its activities, programs and exhibits. JCHS is a non-profit organization which relies on the support of the community. With the help of the funds raised, the Society can continue educating visitors about the history of Jefferson County and the surrounding areas.

Each month the JCHS hosts an educational and/or entertaining program. In addition, exhibits rotate every three years.

The village is open annually from the first weekend in May to the last weekend in October. During the open season, events are held for children and adults including guided tours, artifact exhibits and classes such as blacksmithing. The Heritage Festival in October attracts many visitors with craft demonstrations and musical groups.
