FFA Public Speaking Career Development Event

The Section 21 FFA Public Speaking Career Development Event was recently hosted by Kaskaskia College’s Agriculture Department staff and students.

Three Sandoval FFA members took part in the event. Mika Taylor participated in the Extemporaneous division. In the Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE, participants are given 30 minutes to deliver a speech on one of three assigned agricultural topics. Students must learn to think on their feet and develop an argument quickly and persuasively. Taylor’s topic to speak on was “Indoor Landscaping”. Levi Brown presented a prepared 6-8 minute informational problem solving speech at the event.

Sandoval freshman, Alyssa Atchison and Hayleigh McClaren participated in the FFA Creed division. Students must present the FFA Creed from memory and answer questions about its meaning and purpose. The event boosts self-confidence, develops their ability to communicate in a powerful, professional manner.

FFA members who demonstrate outstanding speaking and communication skills are enhancing their ability to lead and be successful in the work place. FFA‘s mission is to dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
