Come Out and Support the Marching Rams
By Brendan Estes
The Mount Vernon Township High School Marching Rams have been very busy this year. The Marching Band has already had three marching show performances, two parades, played at the school’s homecoming bonfire and has attended Band Day at the University of Illinois in Champaign. The Band also plans to participate in a marching competition this year at McKendree University on October 19.
The band is over thirty members strong and was excited to welcome back over nine Band Alumni for the homecoming football game marching show last Friday, October 4.
The next marching show performance will be on October 25 for the home football game against Mt. Carmel. The Marching Rams have been practicing their songs, “Day Tripper,” “A Hard Days Night,” and a mashup of “Hey Jude” with “Let it Be,” all by the Beatles, and plan to play all three songs on the 25th. During their most recent parade, the Fall Fest Parade, the Marching Rams marched alongside the Casey Middle School’s Marching Rams playing to the tune of “Day Tripper” and had a blast while representing the high school and supporting the community. The next parade the Band will march in is the Centralia Halloween Parade on October 26. There will also be another opportunity for Alumni band members to come back and play with the band on “Bring Back the Band” night which will take place in early 2020 during the Annual Blackout Basketball game. Be sure to come support the band on the 19th for their competition, the 25th at the home football game, and the 26th at the Centralia Halloween Parade!
