CN Caboose Arrives In Fairview Park
A large crowd in Centralia’s Fairview Park attended the arrival and dedication ceremony for the refurbished “Illinois Central 9415” 1971 caboose. It now joins the IC 2500 locomotive, which was moved to the park about 51 years ago. Centralia Mayor Tom Ashby and CN Vice President Jim “Big Al” Danielwicz spoke of the ongoing partnership between the city and railroad since Centralia’s birth. The caboose was donated to Centralia by the CN Railroad. Also, what was to be a partial caboose repair turned into a complete restoration by CN.
In addition CN Railroad made a $39,500 donation for a railroad pavilion in the Park. The crowd watched as the caboose was carefully lowered onto its wheels.
