CHAMBER SEEKS COMPASSIONATE CAREGIVER NOMINEES
CHAMBER SEEKS COMPASSIONATE CAREGIVER NOMINEES
In May the chamber’s monthly luncheon will be dedicated to honoring our caregivers for the second year in a row.
Last year was the Compassionate Caregiver Luncheon’s inaugural year. Natalie Wellen, who was the marketing director at the chamber at the time, came up with the concept after witnessing the remarkable care given to her aunt following a stroke.
“It was remarkable the care they offered her. Sometimes staff are so underrated, but go so far out of their way to make their patients feel comfortable,” Wellen said. “People aren’t often recognized who do so much of the day-in-day-out work.”
Wellen said the sincerity and dedication of the staff members who cared for her aunt was so inspiring that the idea came to her for the Compassionate Caregiver lunch.
This year both Crossroads Community Hospital and SSM Good Samaritan Hospital will be sponsoring the event.
The luncheon will be on May 16 at 11:30 a.m. at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts. Awards categories will include Nursing (RN or LPN), Therapy (PT, OT, Respiratory, Speech or Aides), Certified Nursing Assis- tant (CNA), EMT – First Responder.
“A caregiver’s dedication outweighs the demands of their job, no matter the setting – and that’s what makes them special,” said Jeremy Bradford, interim president at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital. “Besides demonstrating their clinical acumen, caregivers develop individual bonds with their patients/clients that provides an extra feeling of comfort and healing. SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital is honored to be part of the Compassionate Caregivers program to recognize these individuals who exemplify health care as a true calling, and more than just a job.”
Award criteria includes being currently employed in a healthcare profession in Jefferson County; being a healthcare professional who works directly with patients; communicates sensitively with patients; listen carefully and offers emotional support; respects patients’ values, culture and choices; and understands the significance of patients’ families and their communities.
“Crossroads Community Hospital is proud to sponsor the Compassionate Caregiver Program,” said Amanda Basso, CEO at Crossroads Community Hospital. “As a nurse myself, I am proud to see that local organizations are coming together to recognize individuals that exemplify compassion and dedication in their fields. Crossroads not only employs many compassionate caregivers, we also interact with many from our community/county and see daily the depth of talent we have in our area.”
Those interested in nominating someone for a Compassionate Caregiver Award can contact the cham- ber for more information and to get an application. The deadline for submissions will be Friday April 26, 2019. The recipients will be selected by an independent selection committee.
