Candidate packets available for Library Trustee positions
Prospective candidates for Centralia Regional Library District Trustee in the April 2021 Consolidated Election may pick up a candidate packet at the library at 515 East Broadway in Centralia. Candidate packets may be picked up at the circulation desk during normal library hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 10 am-6 pm; and Wednesday, 10 am-4:30 pm.
Qualifications for a prospective candidate include being registered to vote with at least a one-year residency in the library district at the time the nomination papers are filed. A person is not eligible to serve as a library trustee who, at the time of filing nomination papers, owes money to the library district or has been convicted of any felony. The prospective candidate must also secure the signatures of at least 50 qualified voters who reside within the Centralia Regional Library District on a Petition for Nomination. The first day for circulating petitions is September 22, 2020.
Completed petition packets are to be filed at the library no earlier than 10 a.m. on December 14, 2020, and no later than 5 p.m. on December 21, 2020. Five of the board’s seven seats will be up for election in April; three are for six-year full terms; one is for a four-year unexpired term, and one for a two-year unexpired term. All terms will commence on Monday, May 17, 2021.
The Centralia Regional Library District Board of Trustees has the legal authority and responsibility to see that the library is well managed, and that it operates in accordance the laws of the State of Illinois and the policies established by the Board itself. Duties and responsibilities include budget oversight, policy formulation, long- and short-range planning, and appointment of the library director. The Board of Trustees regularly meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at the Centralia Regional Library in Centralia.
