BCMW Scholarships Available for Bond, Clinton, Marion & Washington Counties

State Representative John D. Cavaletto (R-Salem), is encouraging residents to apply for ten $500 BCMW scholarships made available through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). These scholarships are available to low-income residents looking to further their education. Two additional $500 scholarships are also available that are named in the memories of former BCMW Director C. Russell Rose and former board chairman Doris Clark.

“I encourage people to apply and further their education to open the doors of opportunity for themselves,” said Rep. Cavaletto, a first generation college graduate himself. “There are many good programs at Kaskaskia College and other schools for people to learn skills and knowledge for a career in areas from Agriculture to Nursing,” he added.

Residents of these counties who are looking to further their education at an Illinois accredited two-year community college, vocational school, or four-year college or university may apply. The scholarships may be used for tuition and special fees, textbooks and supplies, room & board, child care and transportation costs.

The criteria for these scholarships include income, most current grade point average, a 100-200 word career goals statement, three letters of recommendation and an interview with the scholarship committee.

Applications are due by Monday, March 24 at 3:00 p.m. to the BCMW office in Centralia. Please contact Sue Castleman at 618-532-7388, extension 115, or by E-mail: sue.castleman@bcmw-il.org.

Representative Cavaletto’s 107th District covers all or portions of Bond, Clinton, Effingham, Fayette, and Marion counties.
