Calling all past and future Balloon Crew Volunteers! Event organizers encourage anyone who wants to volunteer and that are interested in crewing a balloon to call the chamber office at 618-532-6789. A balloon crew training meeting for new crew members or those wanting to sign up to crew a balloon will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Foundation Park by the Gazebo.

“We would like to have about 30-40 crew volunteers for our 25 pilots and balloons. Centralia Balloon Fest will be a balloons only event due to social distancing requirements. As a Chamber we would like to make this event a great, safe, family friendly event for all ages,” said Amanda Barbee, office assistant at The Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be held on August 21, 22, and 23, 2020. If it’s your dream to take a flight in a hot air balloon, here is a chance to make that happen. Balloon Sponsors don’t always take advantage of a chance to fly with the pilots so sometimes there is an opportunity to have crew fly.

Hot air balloon flights are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21; 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22; and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 23. The balloon glows are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. There will be four drive through locations located throughout the community. The locations are as follows: Centralia High School, Central City Lions Park, Wamac Park, and Fairview Park. The event is free this year and people will stay in their vehicles, to remain socially distant. The pilots, crew members, sponsors, and volunteers will be wearing face masks. Outdoor event capacity restrictions of less than 50 people in groups and distance between groups of people will be followed.

This is the 31st year for Centralia Balloon Fest. Typically held in Foundation Park with 35 hot air balloons, this year’s event will feature more than 20 balloons and incorporate all businesses and amenities in our community. Tshirts, mugs, souvenirs, and decorations can be purchased at the Centralia Chamber of Commerce.
