Keeping the Spirit of ’45 Alive
Nature Trail Health Care Center, SSM Hospice of the Good Samaritan to honor America’s “Greatest Generation” by keeping the Spirit of ’45 alive
Mt. Vernon, IL (July 31, 2014) – The World War II generation has often been referred to as the “Greatest Generation” for their example of national unity, cooperation, service and selflessness during an extremely challenging time in our nation’s history. To honor this generation, Nature Trail Health Care Center, in partnership with SSM Hospice of the Good Samaritan, will celebrate the 69th anniversary of the end of World War II with a ceremony to observe Spirit of ’45 Day. This is a special day honoring those who served in World War II, both in uniform and on the home front.
The Spirit of ’45 Day celebration will be held Monday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. at Nature Trail Health Care Center, which is located at 1001 South 34th Street in Mt. Vernon. The event will feature a Color Guard presentation, the playing of Taps, a 21-gun salute, recognition of World War II veterans, special music and food. The public is encouraged to attend the ceremony.
“We are so pleased to be able to honor the legacy of the World War II generation with this celebration. This is our opportunity to give a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to these heroes for their many sacrifices in service to our nation,” said Verna Germanceri, Nature Trail administrator.
“This ceremony is just one way in which SSM Hospice of the Good Samaritan is committed to serving the needs of America’s veterans, said Lisa Austin, branch manager of SSM Hospice of the Good Samaritan. “SSM Hospice is a Level Three participant in the We Honor Veterans program. This program is designed to recognize Americans for their military service, as well as provide valuable resources to Veterans receiving end-of-life care.”
