THE CENSUS As you may have heard, the Government wants people to fill out their Census forms online next year. The library has free computers for public use and free Wi-Fi. THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED Sept. 2nd, 28th, 29th, November 28th and 29th, December 24th and 25th, and January 1st. The Library will close at 5PM on November 27th and December 31st.
NEW LIBRARY RESOURCES The Library has a new online resource that features eMagazines. RBdigital by Recorded Books combines eMagazines, eBooks and eAudiobooks in one easy to use collection. You can gain access to a collection of over 60 popular magazine subscriptions and many older eBook and eAudiobooks titles. Digital magazines provide multi-access use, no holds, no checkout periods and no limits to the number of magazines a patron can borrow. GAME DAY AT THE LIBRARY There will be a GAME DAY at the library on August 24, Sept. 21, October 26, and Nov. 23 from 11AM to 3PM. There will be board games, card games, miniatures games, and role-playing games. Children are welcomed if accompanied by an adult.
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT Kids must be accompanied by an adult and adults must be accompanied by a kid. Movies will be shown Aug. 23, Sept. 20, October 25, and Nov. 22. Because of the licensing agreement, we can’t advertise what movies we will be showing. So call us at 242-6322 to find out the titles. Games and crafts before the show. Free popcorn and bottled water. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Movie starts at 7 PM.
PROGRAMS FOR TEENS Brehm’s Teen Readers Book club For teens of high school age we will be hosting a monthly book discussion. Meetings will be held on: September 4th, October 2nd, November 6th and December 4th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. For September we will be discussing “The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman. Copies will be available at the first floor circulation desk. No registration is required, for questions call 618-242-6322.
Teen Art Workshop Create your own art! Join us for coloring and watercolors on the second Wednesdays of the month,
starting in October, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Materials will be provided. Workshop will be held in the 2nd floor Teen Area.
PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS ADULT BOOK CLUB The Adult Book Club will meet Sept. 19th, Oct. 17th, and Nov. 14th at 10AM. Copies of the books to be discussed will be available at the Circulation desk on first floor.
RIP AND STITCHERS KNITTING AND CROCHET WORKSHOP Patrons who have taken a beginning class of crochet and/or knitting are welcome. Patrons who know how to crochet and knit are also welcome. This group is not for beginners. Patrons must have a C.E Brehm Adult card in good standing. We will meet the first and third Tuesday of every month from 2-4 PM. Patron must sign up each month to attend. Patrons are not required to attend every meeting. Please call 242-6322, ext. 2, to register.
CREATIVE COLORING & WATERCOLORS FOR ADULTS With our user friendly materials you can create your own artwork. Join us for Wonderful Watercolors and Creative Coloring on the second Tuesdays of the month from 1:30 – 3:00 PM. FREE COMPUTER WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS There will be a Keyboarding class Held on Sept. 25th and Oct. 2nd at 4:30 PM. You must take both classes to take the Computer classes. A Computer Basics workshop will be held Oct. 9th at 4:30 PM. You need to take this workshop before you take the other computer workshops. This workshop will cover how to turn a computer on, how it works, and “must have” software. The Email workshop will be held Oct. 16th at 4:30 PM. This workshop will cover how to communicate on the Web and what to watch out for when doing so. An Introduction to the Internet workshop will be held Oct. 30th at 4:30 PM. This workshop will cover what the Internet is, how it works, how you can use it to make your life better. Call 242-6322, ext. 2, to register for these workshops.
CROCHET CLASS Learn to crochet a simple scarf. There will be a Beginner’s Crocheting Class on October 1st and 15th, from Noon to 2PM. You must attend both sessions. Patrons are required to be BML patron in good standing, must bring a crochet hook (a hook that is size H, I or J) and a skein of yarn. I-CASH AND I-CHECK Find out about money the state owes you. The Illinois Treasurer’s Office will hold an I-Cash and I-Check event from 10 AM to 2 PM on October 7th.
ILLINOIS STATE ORGAN DONOR PROGRAM There will be an informational event on the Illinois State Organ Donor Program on October 14th at 10 AM.
A CONCERT BY GREG AND DEBBIE BACKES On October 17th at 6:30PM Greg & Debbie Backes will perform a concert featuring many different styles of music. Songs will include those by Bob Dylan, John Denver, John Prine, Chris Stapleton and many others. Come and enjoy a fun evening of music we love and know.
SUPERHERO SATURDAY Movies and Costume Contest October 19th the library will present a double feature of SUPERHERO MOVIES. Come dressed as your favorite superhero. Prizes for best costume. Costume contest will be held at 1PM. Movies will start at 11AM, and 1:30 PM. CLASSIC MONSTER MOVIE NIGHT October 26th the Library will be showing THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and THE FLY (the 1950s version) as a special monster movie double feature for Halloween. The doors will open at 6:30 PM with THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON starting at 7PM and THE FLY starting 8:30 PM. Free popcorn, sodas, and bottled water. Children welcomed if accompanied by an adult.
HISTORY, MYSTERY AND HAUNTINGS OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS Bruce Cline, paranormal investigator and ghost historian will present a program October 29th at 6:30 PM. At long last, the archives of the Little Egypt Ghost Society and the Gaslight Ghoul Club have been opened. Meet with team members of the Little Egypt Ghost Society as they tell how they uncovered the secrets behind some of southern Illinois’ most famous ghost stories and legends.
TEA PARTY The library and Country Creek Treasures cordially invite you to a tea tasting event on November 4th at 10AM at the C.E. Brehm Library. Learn about the different kinds of teas. NEW YEAR’S EVE GAMING FOR ADULTS Looking for a fun, inexpensive, way to celebrate the New Year’s. Join us at the C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library as we play board games, card games, role- playing games and miniatures games. It starts at 6PM and runs until 2AM. No alcohol allowed. Snacks and soft drinks will be provided. No children.

BREHM STORY HOURS FOR LITTLE ONES All children ages 2-5 are welcome to attend as we read stories, do puzzles, play, color, and make some crafts. There will be a different theme each week. We will meet every Wednesday from September 11th to December 11th at 10 AM. No registration is required. Caregiver attendance is required. For questions, call 242-6322, ext. 4.
EVENING STORY TIME Can’t make it during the day for story time? Join us on September 12th, October 10th, November 14th, and December 12th from 6-7 PM for an evening story hour. BOOK TASTING Come to the library on Thursday, September 19th and sample a few choice books. A Book Tasting is a chance to try different types of books to see if you might like to read them. You’ll have the opportunity to take sample bites from assorted book genres and see what whets your appetite. Open to kids ages 8-13. From 6-7 PM. Caregiver attendance is required. Registration is required.
BOOKS AS TREATS Nom, nom, nom. Books are the best kind of treat. Come to the library from 5:30-7:30 PM on October 23rd dressed in your finest Halloween costume and get a free book. Children from pre-school through 7th grade will receive one free book each while supplies last. Remember, books are brain candy!
HALLOWEEN PARTY Get ready for a night of thrills and chills! On Thursday, October 24th we will be having a Halloween Party for all children under 12. There will be games, snacks, and stories. We will also have pumpkin decorating and a costume contest. From 6-7 PM. Caregiver attendance is required. Registration is required.
FAMILY READING NIGHT “It’s Showtime at Your Library” on November 21st. Bring the whole family together and enjoy some games, crafts, stories, drawings, and entertainment at our Circus themed night of fun. Events will begin at 5:30 PM. Pizza and water will be sold.
CHRISTMAS PARTY Tis the season to read some good books. We will be having a special Christmas party on December 19th from 6-7 PM. We’ll read stories, make crafts, and have some cocoa and cookies.
