The Ralph & Bernice Sprehe St. Mary Parish/Kaskaskia College Scholarship Trust Selection Committee recently selected 7 students to be scholarship recipients. The Trust will distribute up to a total of $35,268 in the 2017 – 2018 school year to these St. Mary Catholic Church parishioners to assist them in continuing their studies at Kaskaskia College and 4-year universities of their choice.

Recipients of the Kaskaskia College Full Tuition Scholarships valued up to $4,256 each for the 2017 – 2018 school year include:

Ethan Hawkins           Trisha White           Matthew Zelasko

Recipients of the Baccalaureate Scholarships valued at $4,500 each awarded to Kaskaskia College graduates who are continuing their studies at a four-year university of their choice for the 2017 – 2018 school year include:

Micaela Maco was awarded a Ralph Sprehe Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $9,000 for the 2017 – 2018 school year to attend Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. The selection of the recipient of this scholarship is based on extraordinary need, performance and individual initiative with the value of the award generally being greater than the other scholarships.

The Sprehe Scholarship Trust was established by a generous gift from Ralph and Bernice Sprehe in 1998 to assist parishioners of St. Mary Catholic Church in obtaining a college education at Kaskaskia College. The gift was placed in trust and is managed by the US Bank Private Group. The purpose of the Trust is to serve as a perpetual endowment to assist current and future generations of St. Mary Catholic Church parishioners in attending Kaskaskia College by full payment of their tuition for four consecutive semesters. Mr. Sprehe expanded the scope of Trust in 2002 by amending the Trust Agreement to include an additional category of baccalaureate scholarships. These baccalaureate scholarships are for St. Mary Catholic Church parishioners who have graduated from Kaskaskia College and are continuing their studies at a four-year university of their choice.
