Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Given Kaskaskia College Educational Partnership Award

Kaskaskia College is proud to announce that Southern Illinois University Carbondale was recently given the 2014 Educational Partnership Award.

KC has a long history of articulation and partnership agreements with SIUC. Through these agreements, which allow KC students completing an Associate’s Degree to transfer with ease to a baccalaureate program at SIUC, a large number of students have been able to accomplish their educational goals.

Working together we have developed 2 + 2 articulation agreements in the areas of Engineering, Business, Accounting, Industrial Tech, Network Administration, and Web Development, as well as a general AAS articulation. These agreements cover dozens of programs at KC.

Faculty and staff at SIUC and Kaskaskia College have developed collaborative partnerships in other disciplines as well. For example, detailed discussions between faculty in the Department of Geography and Environmental Resources and KC instructors are addressing articulation issues with a view toward enhancing the transferability of courses in our proposed new Geospatial Technology Degree. Collaboration among science faculty from the two institutions is greatly assisting our efforts to establish a new program in biotechnology and nanotechnology. Agriculture faculty at KC are working with representatives of the Agricultural Sciences College in Carbondale to ensure a consistent message and a smooth transition for students transferring to their baccalaureate programs. Mathematics faculty and instructional administrators are partnering on initiatives designed to recruit STEM educators and to provide professional development opportunities as K-12 schools implement the Common Core Standards.

Since the establishment of the SIU Transfer Center at KC several years ago, many students have been assisted with their transition from Kaskaskia College to Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Having an SIUC representative to meet with students at KC is invaluable to them. Our students are also assisted financially through SIUC scholarships such as the Community College Transfer Scholarship and the new SIUC Distance Education Community College Graduate Scholarships, which are awarded to KC graduates each year.
