KC Hosting Visiting Writers Series
Kaskaskia College to Host Book Release as part of Visiting Writers Series
Kaskaskia College is pleased to announce that it will again host a Visiting Writers Series that will be held each semester. The event will include guest writers and editors who will offer short readings of published work as well as a question and answer session and a book signing.
This fall’s event will be a book release of Surreal South ’13, an anthology of short fiction, the fourth book in the every-odd-year series from Press 53. The book features stories embedded in the surreal and seen through the perspective of the American South, fiction featuring the scary and the strange.
The event will feature the book’s Editor, Josh Woods, the book’s Associate Editor, Clint Stevens, and one of the book’s contributor’s, Fred Venturini. Woods and Stevens are professors at Kaskaskia College. Venturini is a local novelist, author of the book The Samaritan.
The Visiting Writers Series occurs once in the fall and once in the spring, and it includes a guest writer who will offer a reading of his or her work as well as a question-and-answer session and a book signing. The purpose of the Visiting Writers Series is to offer Kaskaskia College and the surrounding community an opportunity to see, meet, learn from, and interact with published and awarded authors and poets. Such events not only cultivate and encourage the appreciation of reading, writing, and the literary arts, but they also inspire and enrich on the personal level.
The event with will be held Thursday, November 14, from 2:00 to 3:00pm in the Lifelong Long Learning Center on the KC Main Campus. The event will include a literary reading, a question-and-answer session and a book signing. The event is free and open to the public.
