The Kaskaskia College Athletic Department announced last night that Jared Waldhoff of Teutopolis and Lauren Krebs of Breese were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year. The Dr. James and Roxie Underwood Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards were announced at the College’s Annual Athletic Ceremony held April 29.Sophomore Jared Waldhoff is a member of the KC Blue Devils baseball team. He has a cumulative GPA of 3.45. Jared is currently 10-4 in his 2 year career at KC. He was 8-2 as a freshman on the Region 24 and GRAC Runner-Up team a year ago and was also named to the All-Conference Team last year. He is currently 2-2 this year and will be looked to throw big innings again in the postseason. He has signed a Letter of Intent to play baseball at Southeast Missouri State University.

According to KC Coach Mitch Koester, “Jared is a tremendous competitor on the mound and in the weight room and practice. He is someone the freshman have looked up to this entire year and is a tremendous kid. Jared has been a pleasure to coach in his 2 years and we look for him to do really well in life and baseball. He is a tremendous student”.

Sophomore Lauren Krebs of Breese is a member of the Blue Angels Soccer Team. She will be graduating May 15 with a 4.0 GPA. Lauren is an exemplary student-athlete. She not only excels in athletics but also in the class room. Besides completing over 80 hours of Kaskaskia College credit with a perfect 4.0 she also works in the success center where she tutors, proctors tests, and works the front desk. Lauren has been instrumental in soccer recruiting efforts the past two years. She is eager to help with recruit visits and is also active in our soccer big sister program. She has been involved with the AQIP planning process as a student representative and an active member of Phi Theta Kappa. Due to all of her completed credits Lauren was a Pinnacle Academic All-American following her Freshman year and will again be one this spring. Lauren was also homecoming queen during her time at KC and is a member Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Lauren was team captain and recipient of the Blue Angel Award, Most Improved Award, and the Most Valuable Player Award for this school year.

According to Coach Joe Basch, “Lauren earned all-region honors this past fall which is extremely difficult in our region since we had 3 nationally ranked teams. Of the 11 positions on the soccer field Lauren played in 8 different positions throughout the course of the season. Due to a large amount of injuries her versatility, athleticism, and soccer abilities were key in helping us to a 12-4 record. She was vital in our vast improvements on the defensive side of the ball in particular. Lauren was recruited by numerous schools and has chosen to continue her academics and soccer at Missouri Baptist University where she will join a team that played in their conference’s championship game this past fall”.
