Land at the rear of the property is currently being prepared for soccer fields expected to open in 2022.

The organization was chartered 55 years ago in 1965; however its roots go back as early as 1947 with a first meeting called by Harold Howard and Silas Echols. Bylaws were adopted in 1957 thanks to the efforts of Demetri Hassakis.  During its more than 55 years in Mt. Vernon, the YMCA has been located in the old Washington School, several downtown store fronts, Lincoln School, Broadway Street and its current location.

The YMCA will continue its mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.  YMCA programs strive to build strong kids, strong families and a strong communities.
