SSM Health in Illinois seeks blood donations
As many procedures and appointments resume at SSM Health hospitals and other facilities, blood donations are needed to ensure patients can receive the care they need. The donation is made in a safe environment and enables community members to help their neighbor, just as so many did in the days before COVID-19.
The next blood drive at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital is Friday, June 19th from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the Weight Management and Metabolic Center, located at 5 Good Samaritan Way.
The blood drive is being held in conjunction with the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center.
Over the last couple months, demand for blood components had dropped to approximately 60 percent of normal levels. As medical care resumes at hospitals and clinics, utilization has increased and is now approaching pre-pandemic levels.
Prior to giving blood, donors are screened for any symptoms of illness. Donors also are asked to fill out a health history questionnaire, which can often be done online.
All staff and blood donors are required to wear a mask or face covering. A face covering is provided to donors who do not bring their own. Extra space is created between donors to ensure social distancing, as well as in the post-donation refreshment area.
Appointments for the blood drive are required. To sign up, please visit: Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center or call 866-448-3253.
