Area Nurses Provide Services, Medical Supplies To Guatemala

October 11, 2017

Two generous nurses at Crossroads Community Hospital are preparing to embark on a mission trip to Guatemala the first week of October. The nurses will provide medical services to families in the area that do not have access to regular medical care. Accompanying these two nurses on their trip is a generous donation of medications and supplies from Crossroads Family Medicine and Dr. Choudhry N. Mumtaz.

Allison Reider, RN, and Cindy Phillips, RN, of Crossroads Community Hospital are members of ER Abroad, a non-profit organization based out of Rochester, Illinois. The organization consists of physicians, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals who provide medical treatments in third world countries.

“The people of Guatemala do not have access to the same type of medical care we have available to us in the United States,” said Allison Reider. “When we arrive, we set up a walk-in clinic and see about 130 people every day.”

Dr. Mumtaz knew he wanted to help support Reider and Phillips by donating as many supplies and medications as possible to the people of Guatemala. Some items being donated include Tylenol, vitamins, Claritin, and Ibuprofen.

“I recently joined Crossroads Family Medicine and am glad to see that my practice can support Crossroads nurses extending our mission beyond the walls of the hospital. This is a small gesture to show our appreciation for Allison and Cindy and their work in Guatemala,” said Dr. Mumtaz.

Dr. Mumtaz is Board Certified in Family Medicine at Crossroads Family Medicine of Mt. Vernon. He provides family focused comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages.
